Dear folks –

I will be posting the following piece this morning on FrontiersLA.com – but I wanted to send it out to anyone who might want to post it directly, or email it around or whatever. The creative agency Wondros is working with the Uprising of Love campaign – with the Arcus Foundation, Bruce Cohen, Dustin Lance Black, Melissa Etheridge and others – to create an inclusive music video for Melissa’s “Uprising of Love” song. They intend to release it prior to the closing ceremonies of the Olympics. They want to include trans images – but no trans folk heeded their open casting call last week. Hence this outreach. Instructions on what to do are below.

Please feel free to copy and cross post this into your own blog or Facebook page or however you want to distribute it. The video will get a ton of publicity and it needs to be ALL inclusive.

URGENT: Casting Call for Trans Folks Who Want to Kiss on Camera

Fans of Xena: Warrior Princess will gleefully remember the 1997 episode “Here She Comes… Miss Amphipolis” where star Lucy Lawless received a huge smooch from Miss Amphipolis, played by the late trans actress Karen Dior.

The flare need not be as outstanding as Xena, but the creative Wondros agency – working with the Arcus Foundation, among others – is urgently seeking images of trans folks kissing to include in a four-minute mini-documentary they are producing for the “Uprising of Love” campaign “to communicate the urgency of the LGBT crisis that’s currently unfolding in Russia.” Shots of couples or two individuals kissing will be laid over the original song “Uprising of Love” by Melissa Etheridge.

Unfortunately, no trans folk responded to their casting call last week so Wondros is urgently putting out a call to hopefully reach trans individuals TODAY. Here is an excerpt of their casting call plea, instructions on how to participate, and the release form. If you have any emergency questions, please contact producer Kate Roughan at kate@wondros.com  or through the Wondros office at (323) 951-0010.

“You don’t have to be a couple; just get someone to kiss. The film will be on the internet PRIOR to the close of the Olympics February 23rd. We have no representation from the Transgender community as of now. If you’re able, can you please get people to kiss, film it on an iPhone and upload it TODAY? The instructions are below and I’ve included the release, which needs to be signed and uploaded as well.”

1. kiss on camera.

2. say on camera “I give Wondros permission to use my image.

3. upload footage.

1. Take 1 portrait style photo of each couple member.

2. Hold the iPhone or camera horizontally approximately 2 feet away from face.

3. You’re going to be filming 1 nice kiss on the lips. BEFORE the lips meet, there is an “empty frame.” Then the couple leans into the frame for a kiss on the lips. G-Rated, not a make out session.

4. Get a nicely composed wide shot showing where the people are kissing. A cool background would be helpful and nice.

They can upload them to our Hightail account using the following link:

Full instructions are as follows:

1. Transfer the video file to your computer. Note that if you are using an iPhone, you will need to connect your phone to your computer with a USB cable to transfer the video in the highest resolution; emailing or texting the video will compress the file size.

2. Once you have the video file, open your web browser and navigate to https://www.hightail.com/u/wondros

3. Enter your name and email address, click “Select File” and select your video file, and press “Send It”!
